While his previous portfolio of works has portrayed his subjects through a distinct monochromatic-cyan filter, “Flourish” introduces a new chapter in Edwin Martinez’s artistic journey. Considered as a significant step in lieu of the evolution of his overall style, the exhibition aims to portray the development of Edwin’s art throughout the years through a divergence in formal composition.
The artist depicts his journey as a wandering astronaut, exploring the unknown and discovering changes that come about ominously. This subject in particular has become a definitive reoccurring theme for him, reflective of his task in traversing the vastness of space.
His works intend to highlight the inevitability of change and how the passage of time affects not only our surroundings but also us, as human beings. Be it from a different place or state, as long as the sands of time flows, nature will inevitably take its course on everyone. In the end, man ultimately becomes his own deciding factor. All that is left is to decide whether to move forward on the same path or to head off in a different direction.
