LOCALE

As a collection of open themes to express various forms of art freely, the collaboration includes a diversity of original artwork and artistic practices. Each artist created a wall-bound work and personalized house sculpture. With that, they’ll be able to highlight what their identity is, and what trajectory they’re going to do. The tendency is that, once the size and a specific theme are provided, there is a possibility that the artist will be limited.

The primary objective is to highlight Bulacan’s young artist community and introduce the younger ones. A way to map the upcoming young artists here in Bulacan and highlight how diverse and evolving it is. The Group of seniors has merged a group to guide a Filipino Young Artist through collaboration and to grow continuous projects with Filipino Young Artists.

“Locale” is a Group Exhibition serving as a diverse collection of originals regarding modern Filipino artists. The Group artist depicted different approaches to convey original art techniques and interpretations to present in the exhibition.

In my first solo show titled “Homage,” in 2019 I focused on honoring the important women in my life, like my mom, aunts, and grandmother. I created art featuring wishbones, representing my hopes and dreams for them. One wish was for my mom’s recovery from an injury, and the other was for financial stability after her medical expenses. Each piece showed an equal split wishbone, symbolizing a fulfilled wish for both my Mama and I.

Now, in 2024, “Home” my third solo exhibit, reflects on the changes in my relationships with these women. I’ve learned to understand and accept my aunts on a deeper level, recognizing their upbringing and choices. My wish for my mom came true, and I’ve also learned to love her with healthy boundaries. Unfortunately, my Lola passed away during the pandemic, but it gave me time to grieve and appreciate our relationship.

For “Home,” I want to pay tribute to my journey and healing. Over the years, I’ve changed how I see and value myself, stand up for my morals, and create art. This year’s exhibit is about personal growth, finding peace, and honoring oneself, regardless of the outcomes.

In my “Home” exhibit, I’ll be showing wishbone sculptures that symbolize the essence of our wishes and prayers. Alongside them, I’ll feature wishbone paintings illustrating uneven outcomes. In contrast, to my first solo show, “Homage”. It highlights the idea that prayers and wishes don’t always break as anticipated —and that’s perfectly okay.
