ABOUT TIME: A Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

ABOUT TIME is the latest contribution to a series of exhibits by artists coming from Angono, Rizal since the pandemic started five months ago. White Walls Gallery gathers 24 artists around its refurbished home, most of them belong to the Neo-Angono Artists Collective, Angono KUTA Artists and Tanay’s PAROLA Artist Group.

Artist Karl Castro, one of the organizers of the exhibit, talks about the context of the show. “The pandemic has deepened long-standing worries, anxieties and struggle. Every day is a challenge to sustain survival and maintain a semblance of order and function,” he says, as he describes his work titled “A Day in the Life”.

ABOUT TIME affirms the universal trajectory of the human psyche and longing for existence and survival. In the midst of the pandemic, the participating artists “confront the days one at a time” and consciously define and respond to the psychological and emotional linen covering their immediate environ, space and worldviews. They reimagine the stages and affective synapses of the pandemic that include halt and displacement; one’s inner struggle and introspection; the coping mechanisms; the underlining power play of omission and recognition; and the proverbial hope and optimism.
